My Reflective Review of 2011

Like me, you’ll be reviewing your achievements of 2011.  It’s so important to look back at them, revisit and enjoy the memories, to celebrate them and to take the learnings of the year.  What are you most proud of, what’s the icing on the top of the cake for you?  What could you have done differently?  What have you gained?  What or who have you let go of?  What was your biggest learning about yourself?  Who were the key players this year who made a significant impact on you?

As I reflect back I remember that by the end of 2010 was beginning to feel uneasy.  I was continuing to work hard and yet the results were not showing up in my business fast enough.  I had some full workshops and 1:1 clients although I wondered if I needed to find a ‘proper’ job (perhaps return to my recruitment industry roots) and yet I really didn’t want to.  My calling to serve women, to support them in their greatness was so strong.  I knew that I had to keep focused, not allow fear to take over take what I am here to do.

I have invested so much in my own learning since 2004 with mentors, coaches, seminars, conferences, bootcamps as well as books, audios and training dvds.  What was slowing me down was that some of what I’d learned conflicted greatly with my own authenticity and it was on my mind so much of the time.  My thoughts were affecting my progress.  Have you ever felt that?  It was like pushing away from the side of the swimming pool as I decided to break away from what did not fit with my own values and to step further into my own truth.  Choosing to love and let go of the people who I was not in alignment with and instead be true to myself, honour my clients authentically. This move felt bold, empowering yet scary at the same time!  Having said this, I was so grateful for all the learnings and experience as it supported me to gain clarity on my own values, my purpose, who my clients are and how I can honour and support them to step into their greatness.  Does this resonate with you?

It was time to step up big and take the empowering practices that I’d learned and integrate them in with my intentions!  One of my dreams for some years was to set up a self development group for women and I decided to stop procrastinating and take a giant leap out of my comfort zone.  At the beginning of March, I launched a self development group for women in High Wycombe called Fab Friends Network.  Some wonderful women joined my membership group and began making great changes in their lives.  I was asked to appear on another local radio station and many speaking bookings came flowing my way.  Creating videos raised my visibility and pushed me further out of my comfort zone.  More clients connected with me – my authentic self, and knew I could support them to get great results.  I chose not to become distracted from my path and launched a VIP Group for 5 women in September, who I work with at a higher level, this group is called the Butterfly Circle and we meet each month for a day of learning, sharing and mentoring.   And a second Fab Friends Network group was launched in Basingstoke, Hampshire in October.  It was very exciting to have two new websites built www.alisoleil.com and www.fabfriendsnetwork.com.  The year unfolded beautifully with happiness, integrity and life lessons of trusting, surrendering, self belief and focus.

My clients have inspired and delighted me with their transformations, decisions, dreams and support. They have made such tremendous progress, I feel privileged to work with every single beautiful soul.  I’ve also met some hugely inspiring women mentors this year who have taught me so much and guided me to make authentic decisions in my business – and life.  I’ve been fortunate to attend some eye and heart opening workshops and talks in London with inspiring speakers such as Byron Katie, Sonia Choquette and Dr Michael Beckwith.   I also met my partner Andrew who has been a very important person in my life this year.  He has been so fantastic at loving me whilst allowing me to focus on my business.  Supporting and listening to me when I’ve been unsure of my challenging leaps, reassuring me and putting up with me when I’ve been a bit stressy!  Both my daughters have supported me at home and in my business, Becky has attended every Fab Friends meeting this year – which has been so helpful to me and a great learning for her!

It certainly has been a year of  huge leaps of faith, some big shifts in my thinking and most of all walking my talk.

I’ve learned that it’s so important to surround myself with a supportive peer group who encourage me to be the best I can be – to be authentic, to believe in myself, to ask for help, not to compare myself with others, keep on my path and not be persuaded off it or distracted by the ‘rocks’ in the road.  And above all to feel happy :)   Hanging in there, keeping motivated – believing in myself and my ‘gifts’ has really changed my circumstances enormously, the snowball is rolling and I’m in such a different place to where I began the year.  I start 2012 full of excitement and can’t wait to allow it all to unfold, surprise and delight me.

I would love to hear about your year, what you’ve faced and overcome.  What learnings you’ve taken and of the joys and delights that have been the icing on the cake for you!  And if you’d like some support to make your 2012 your best year ever, send me an email ali@alisoleil.com and we can have an informal chat to see how we can work together and make that happen, it will be my privilege.

Have a great New Year!

Love and celebrations

Are you ready?

Have you ever considered who your greatest teachers in life may be?

These teachers often are unaware that they are shaping us to be the person we have become or are becoming.

Someone I know said recently that her dog is amongst her greatest teachers.  I would have to agree with that for myself.

Until last autumn my girls and I had a beautiful, tiny, fluffy white Maltese terrier called Winnie.  Winnie taught me much about living in the moment, not holding onto worries or concerns, feeling free, every day was a new day for him.  He was always exploring and making new discoveries.  He was fearless in many ways too – going to new places, introducing himself, making new friends big and small, he didn’t mind getting in a mess if it meant he was having fun or having a different experience.  He would even get into a bit of trouble if it meant he could have what he wanted.

So many of us hold back who we really are and share with the world only a small fraction of what we truly are capable of.  What is it that we are frightened of?  Could it be that we don’t want to make others feel uncomfortable or jealous?  Is it that we don’t know if we can carry it off – and that failure is around the corner and we worry what people will think of us?  Do you do that too?  What is the worst that could happen?

Imagine if you chose to live more like Winnie, just consider how different your life could be.  What could you achieve that would make your heart sing, what would you be doing differently and with whom would you be sharing your life with?  As you are reading this now, I have a feeling that you are more than ready.

Sometimes it takes courage to acknowledge when you are holding back; to take a leap of faith in yourself, commit to your future by honour yourself and stepping up to greatness.

If you have a feeling that this is your time and you are thinking it’s time to step up and really go for it – then join my mailing list by adding your details in the box to the left or make a note in your diary to pop back here soon as I have a very special announcement to make next week.

Wishing you happiness – and a fabulous weekend!

Overwhelmed with inspiration

Whilst feeling overwhelmed by the choice of half year diaries in Staples yesterday (oh yes, what an exciting life I lead!), I got chatting to the lady next to me who was equally confused.  Sometimes when there is so much choice it’s hard to know which choice to take.  But I always feel better the moment I just decide.  Do you know what I mean?

In fact this diary is where I write my ‘to do list’ which for me is like my guide, it  keeps me feeling productive, and allows me to be creative.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed with things ‘to do’.  Unless I choose to write them down I begin to feel off balance, get ‘mind cluttered’, loose focus and then… nothing productive gets done.  Does this happen to you?  It’s like my energy is being drained away and the creative juices of my mind stop flowing. So I get out my diary and begin happily ‘brain dumping’ all stuff I need to remember.  I love my diary – it sets me free!

Then I remind myself that it’s being kind and loving to give myself the precious gift of time, to stop, let go, breathe, reflect and to smell the fragrance!

When we do that, we get fabulous bursts of inspiration which take us to the next level of our own evolution – and that is where the magic happens!

A Daring Damsels story

My own personal journey has taken me down some sunny, and down some dark roads in my life.

We’ve all been there haven’t we?  I reached a point some years ago where I realised that my self esteem was holding me back – big time!

And that if things were going to change, I needed to change.

After a lot of personal reflection, attending a lot of seminars, presentations, coaching sessions, joining personal development groups, reading books, using my car as my classroom – by listening to top leaders in the personal development world and watching their dvds – I realised that from what I’d been learning and putting into practice, a massive shift was being made! I was getting on top finally and the view was stunning!  Having always been someone who likes to help others, I wanted to share this knowledge and experience with others.

I retrained and qualified as a Life Coach Practitioner, NLP Practitioner, and Practitioner of Time Line Therapy™ and Hypnosis. I set up my company – Daring Damsels.

It’s been an exciting journey so far and I’m so happy to be supporting clients to live their life the way they truly want!  Sometimes we just get ‘stuck’ don’t we?  Can’t see the wood for the trees?  I remember thinking ‘There must be more to life than this.’ Sometimes we forget how truly fabulous we really are.

As a life coach I specialise in empowering women to feel fabulous!  And being honest who doesn’t want to feel fabulous?  I can tell you that I now feel feminine and fabulous!

I do this through one to one coaching (via telephone/Skype/in person), coaching groups (online), mentoring, local workshops and soon I’m taking my workshops into companies.  I’m in the process of writing a home study course, as well as introducing a national membership programme to support members to keep on track and feel inspired when the journey is not so easy.

If you or any ladies you know are suffering with low self esteem or feeling ‘stuck’ in life please let me know!  I can help!  Let me support you to feel fabulous by shine the light on the path ahead, so you can see your way forward with certainty, belief and excitement.  Send me a comment, an email at ali@daringdamsels.com and please visit my web site www.daringdamsels.com  Life is suppose to be FUN and FABULOUS lets make it so! :) xx

If you are ‘doing’ are you making time for ‘being’?

Last week after fearing I was going to run later for a meeting, I parked my car and dashed off. I must have left the lights on my car as to my surprise when I returned, the battery was flat.

No matter what I tried, I could not get the car to start.

Hmm… ‘I’d better make a call to break down recovery’, I decided. Whilst waiting for them to arrive I remembered a friend once showing me how to ‘re-set’ my car when it wouldn’t start once before. So rather than getting out o the car as he advised – I stayed in – clicked the key fob to lock the doors and then clicked to unlock – and again as nothing seemed to be happening. I had managed to lock myself in the car and couldn’t open the door! Yikes – I was trapped!

It was snowing outside and very cold. I had a coaching meeting with a new client 15 miles away in just over an hour and had not brought her telephone number with me. I was truly in a pickle!

There was nothing I could ‘do’ – just ‘be’ whilst waiting for the recovery people to arrive. As I sat there in this seemingly ridiculous situation, I just had to ‘let go’ and trust that all would work out. Getting frustrated or feeling scared (as I was trapped) would be futile. It wouldn’t change my situation; it would only give me wrinkles!

Sometimes we spend so much time being busy we forget to just ‘be’ in the moment. To be present in our own life. I know lately as I establish my business, I have not enjoyed much time switching off and ‘being’. I am so focused and wanting to get on, it is like I have forgotten to make time to relax.

I love what I ‘do’, I am passionate about being a women’s coach and reaching out to ladies who want my services – but being locked in the car almost seemed like it was ‘meant to be’, a reminder from the Universe if you like, to just sit with nothing to do, to surrender to the experience, trust and let go. After 40 minutes of quiet time and reflection, the recovery guys arrived and let me out by simply opening the door from the outside (it didn’t even require a key from the outside).  My battery was restarted and soon I was on my way to meet my client.  All was good.

I have decided not to take my foot off the accelerator but to ensure I have more comfort breaks on my journey. It’s not a race building a business and I want to ensure I enjoy the magnificent views along the way.  Does any part of this resonate with you? Do you remember to just ‘be’? After all, as someone once told me, we are human ‘beings’ not human ‘doings’.

Will Smith for President?

I urge you – please give yourself 10 minutes today, to watch and reflect on this….

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLN2k0b3g70&feature=player_embedded]

You have to admire Will Smith – Don’t you?

He’s not just an awesome actor whose charisma oozes from the screen - he’s a fine role model to all generations… In this video of clips posted on youtube, he shares snippets of his philosophy.  It blows me away to hear him talk with such PASSION, enthusiasm and COURAGE.  I get shivers down my spine.

This is a man who not only walks his talk, he’s proof it works.  He is a driven individual who HAPPILY focuses on what he wants – he CHOOSES not to sweat the small stuff… stays on track with CONVICTION in his belief that he can achieve.  Does not listen to the doubters and MAKES it happen.

What a powerful man.

What can we learn from him?  How easily do we forget our dreams?  Decide we ‘can’t do it’? Make excuses for not achieving?  Even put some blame on others… Do you know anyone who does that?  Do you believe in yourself?  What goal can you say you will achieve this year – with total courage and conviction? Mmm… something to think about…

What a fabulous day I’ve had!  I had the greatest pleasure of being trained by Yvonne Gurney today – ‘train the trainer’.  My workshop preparations are going well and I am looking forward to delivering a memorable day for my attendees in January.

Getting to know some of the participants before the event has been fantastic; they are wonderful ladies who have recognised that their inner Gremlin has been getting the better of them and are wishing to break free and tame this less than supportive saboteur.

I’ve just written a free report 5 Tips Your Inner Gremlin Doesn’t Want You To Know… email me and I’ll be delighted to send you a free copy!  ali@daringdamsels.com

Ensuring the workshop gives benefit and value is of paramount importance to me – I want each and everyone to have a great time, gain more self awareness and leave with a strategy to raise their self esteem that suits them.  If you’re ready to secure your place, please email me or go to the link below and sign up!  http://www.meetup.com/DaringDamsels/

How would you rate your level of self esteem?  How does your self esteem affect the way you live your life?  What difference would a higher self esteem make to you?  Message me now! :)

Have you noticed how printers have a knack of waiting until you have an important document to print in a hurry before they tell you they are out of ink?  What a cruel trick ;) – and a cue for me to be become more organised and have a spare to hand.  This morning I was in a rush to print some flyers for my January Daring Damsels Self Esteem Booster Workshop.  I wanted to attend Cappuccino Connections in Aylesbury and take the flyers with me.

After running off 10 copies which I realised were of  poor quality I knew I’d have to make a quick trip to get some new ink.   I went out to the car to and noticed a tyre was looking somewhat deflated… mmmm… great – not.  The event was starting at 10.00am (a drop-in event) and it was now just after 10am.  I drove to find some ink and looked at the tyre again… Ooops… it was really looking flat… I trundled a few hundred yards to the garage and put some air in the tyre.   After getting home, printing my flyers I was ready to head to Aylesbury.  A quick glance at the tyre told me the air was escaping; a calculated guess told me I was pushing my luck but I was determined to get to the event.  I thought I’d call the road recovery people when I got to the venue to ask them to rescue this damsel and put on the spare tyre.  I held my breath as I drove… but as I got to within 2 miles of the venue I knew it was time to pull over and make the call.  Maybe it was the smoke coming from the tyre that was the giveaway? ;)   Ooops… I know I’m so naughty!

Having had breakdown cover for 20 years – this was the first time I’ve ever used it.  It was a good experience.  The lovely Knight of the road arrived within 40 mins and popped the spare on.  After thanking him I looked at the time… it was midday.  Exactly the time the networking event finished.   Mmmm…. so what to do?  Return home with my flyer or go anyway.  Of course, I whizzed down the road and arrived within 5 minutes.  The leader of the networking welcomed me warmly and with a twinkle in her eye reminded me they begin at 10am and finish at midday – not begin then!  Ha ha very funny!  There were about 8 ladies still remaining – and out of the corner of my eye I spotted a few plates groaning with chocolate cookies!

Now the most amazing thing happened.  I was introduced to a lady who was getting ready to leave.  She is a trainers trainer – exactly what I need right now; someone who can help me to prepare myself for the January workshop.  How wonderful!  I need all the tips and training I can get in order to deliver the best possible experience to my attendees.  I feel very grateful.  We have agreed a training session.  So the lesson for me was – if you keep getting knocked down, keep getting up – and keep positive.  Focus on what you want – not on what you don’t want.  The Universe may test your perseverance by throwing up some obstacles and it will also reward you if you remain on target.  If you’ve not watched/read The Secret – do get yourself a copy.

So, what would you have done in my shoes?  Maybe you wouldn’t have risked the tyre in the first place?  What are you focusing on?  Are you on target?  What support could benefit you?  Who could help?  If you would like a copy of my Daring Damsels Self Esteem Booster Workshop flyer – do message me.

Having the perfect business is such fun

Wow what a fabulous time I had at Women On Their Way on Friday!  Jo Cameron (past contestant from The Apprentice) and her business partner Lisa Ibbotson created an amazing line up of speakers for a room full of eager to learn ladies.  I don’ think I’ve shared a room with so many millionaires – who were ladies!  Listening to their strategies for success was such an opportunity.   Being in a room full of women celebrating and learning from women was an unusual but great experience – the warmth and camaraderie was intoxicating, the wish for the greater good – completely different from the usual mixed sex conference I’ve been to.

Listening to Gill Fielding talking about strategies for success being like following a proven recipe I felt the buzz of ambition resonating through my being.  She discussed ways we could overcome the pension crisis we are heading towards… empowering knowledge.   Her statistics showed that in the 2008  list of the richest 1,000 people in the UK only 98 were women (and two of those are in couples) – however women are the fastest growing wealth group.  By 2020 it is predicted that the majority of millionaires will be women.

Emma Wimhurst who built an incredible business supplying own brand colour cosmetics to the major UK high street chains and sold it for a well deserved fortune.

Deirdre Bounds a lady who created a hugely successful company from scratch – without commercial experience but a passion that drove her to help others to duplicate her English teaching back pack days.

The message I heard over and over was – find something you love doing (then it’s not like work), decide your value and vision for your company – keeps you in alignment when you need to make decisions.  Write a business plan (amazing how so many people choose not to do this) which will keep you on track when some days become foggy – you can get back on track.  Know your customers – know their ‘wants’ not necessarily their ‘needs’ after all, us ladies my need a coat because it’s cold but if a pair of shoes (of which we may have hundreds) catches our eye – we’ll go for that, because we want it.  De-clutter you workspace and home – it clears your mind and allows new ideas and business to flow in (Marie-Claire Carlyle presentation was fascinating).  Know your finance – monitor regularly.  Learn from your mistakes and dare to be different (your USP).  Trust your intuition and don’t share all your ideas and thoughts with everyone – they will often talk you out of them – but do talk to your team and communicate with your customers.  Remember, life is supposed to be ‘fun’!  Enjoy it!

As I left I spoke to Jo and to thank her for an extraordinary day.  I said it was life changing which sounded a bit cliché but on reflection of course its only life changing if I take action based on what I’ve learned.  So here we go!

If you were setting up a business what would you like to be doing?  What do you feel passionate about?  Who could help you to get started?  What would be important to you?  Clutter/hoarder?  When will you begin to de-clutter?  How much fun is your life?  What could you do differently to make it more fun?
